From: Jack Williams
Moderator, IGA_Net<tm> IGA_WGW Conference
Subject:: Rules of the IGA_WGW Conference
Revised 29 April 1995
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this echo is to provide a means to furnish input or to
query the Who's Got What (WGW) data base. To formulate an input or a
query you need WGW41.ZIP...which is available from many boards over the
U.S....and is available from (703) 373-8215 [28.8k baud USR Dual
Standard].
WGW is a directory of who possesses what genealogy-oriented research
information. An example of use would be if you needed to locate
someone who possesses inventories of cemeteries in Dallas, Texas or
Guilford County, North Carolina....or any other place of interest. If
this were the case, you would obtain WGW41.ZIP, formulate your query,
and submit it via this echo. A response would also be given via this
echo.
In order to submit a query to the data base, you must first furnish
input to it. You furnish your input over this echo and formulate it
by using a program within WGW41.ZIP. It is not intended that this
requirement be onerous. Your input may be just a simple statement
of the fact that you are researching a certain surname and that you
possess data relating to it. Hopefully you will have much more
genealogy-oriented research information which you can include in
your submission--but there is *no* requirement for such.
All other genealogy-related traffic is also welcomed, time and space
permitting.
No aliases or one-word-names are allowed on the WGW echo. You must
use your *real* name.
The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the originator
of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a tagline, the
tagline will only be a short line detailing research surnames:
Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
************************************************************
Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
(above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
in messages in this echo.
